Mabon is the Autumn Equinox, when night and day stand equal in duration; it is a time to express gratitude, complete projects, and honor the value of balance. Mabon represents a modern Earth-centered thanksgiving that encourages us to “reap what we sow,” both literally and figuratively.
During Mabon, the second of three harvest celebrations in the Wheel of the Year, look for one of Autumn's most faithful heralds in the Lowcountry: the Cloudless Sulphur butterfly. Each September, these bright yellow butterflies migrate southward towards Florida. If you walk outside on a warm, sunny afternoon between 10 AM and 4 PM, you'll soon notice one, then two, and then dozens fluttering by each hour—a golden procession symbolizing the turning of the Wheel.
As the Cloudless Sulphurs journey south in search of their own season of balance, we warmly invite you to participate with ASIC in celebrating Mabon at 5 PM on Saturday, September 19th, 2026, at Whitehall Park near the Woods Bridge on Lady's Island.
Come as you are, and bring a dish to share for our potluck dinner, to honor this moment of perfect balance, when light and dark are equal — and the nights begin to lengthen toward Winter.
